SEC is currently seeking highly qualified NCLEX Reviewers/Instructors for its Inland Empire campuses at North-West College in West Covina, Pomona, and Riverside.

 

 

NCLEX REVIEWER/INSTRUCTOR

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Using excellent classroom experiences through instruction and a guided review of application/analysis level exam-style questions as well as individual coaching, prepares LVN nursing students and graduates for the NCLEX-PN examination. Adheres to the course curriculum, serves as an NCLEX expert, and employs effective classroom management.

This is a staff position directly responsible to the Director of Nursing.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Teaches and implements the approved NCLEX preparation course curriculum, as assigned by, and under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing

  • Plans and assigns student activities in the classroom and for independent study

  • In addition to classroom instruction, provides individual mentoring and support to students based on assessment of their improvement areas and the student’s stated needs

  • Works with student’s strengths, learning styles, and areas requiring further development, and to develop and implement remediation plans as needed

  • Evaluates student learning and knowledge based on quiz/examination results, interactions in the classroom and on an individual basis

  • Is instrumental in identifying individual and collective learning needs of assigned students, being cognizant of the physical, mental and emotional status of the learners

  • Discusses with students their concerns and/or problems directly or indirectly related to their learning experience

  • Understands each student’s challenge areas (e.g. “text anxiety”, content weaknesses) and assists students with recommended techniques to overcome these obstacles

  • Tracks and documents student progress and issues, planned exam date and test results. Keeps Program Director updated on a regular basis

  • Assists with updating NCLEX tracking tool

  • Provides a copy of all lesson plans to the Director of Nursing

  • Prepares and distributes study guides for the course

  • Maintains accurate attendance records and submits class roster daily

  • Contacts all students who are absent (note that attending this course is voluntary) and submits written reports of pertinent information to the Program Director; attempts to understand why student was absent and encourages students to attend class and improve future success on NCLEX

  • Develops and evaluates the curriculum and the educational practices of the NCLEX course

  • Stays current on NCLEX examination and course updates. Makes recommendations for instructional and curriculum improvements to the course

  • Attends faculty meetings, in-service meetings and other events as required by the College

  • Maintains professional and encouraging relationships with staff and students. Collaborates with colleagues to provide the best possible learning environment for students

  • Provides a professional role model for students

  • May substitute teach for Theory Instructors as requested

  • Performs all other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

 

  • Expertise in the NCLEX-VN exam and course materials and resources.

  • Excellent teaching skills & ability to engage students through high energy levels, and adaptability of teaching style to the learning needs of the students.

  • Demonstrated ability as a nursing instructor in didactic, lab and clinical

  • Experience in assessment of student learning outcomes and remediation strategies required.

  • Must have a solid knowledge base of NCLEX -PN content

  • Ability to identify trends in specific weak areas of nursing course content to successfully operationalize NCLEX-PN reviews.

  • Demonstrated current, detailed, and accurate knowledge of the NCLEX-PN examinations as well as currency in knowledge in the field to provide academic support.

  • Interacts effectively and professionally with students, staff, faculty, and external customers of the College.

  • Ability to address student needs and resolve issues with diplomacy and tact. Commitment to the success of the students and the school.

  • Highly organized and detail oriented.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including questioning, listening and showing concern and respect for others.

  • Presents a confident, approachable and professional image.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills including ability to project voice and be clearly understood when speaking in front of a group.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Possess a high degree of integrity and commitment to comply with policies, regulations, and codes of conduct governing all aspects of job responsibilities.

  • Computer literacy skills including working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution satisfactory to the Board and a minimum of two years of experience as a licensed nurse within the past five years;

              OR

  • Associates degree from an accredited institution satisfactory to the Board and a minimum of six recent years of recent experience as a licensed nurse;

                AND

  • Must possess current valid California license to practice as a registered nurse or as a licensed vocational nurse;

                AND

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching in a nursing program

               AND

  • Expertise in the NCLEX-VN exam and course materials and resources
